Born and raised in Southern California, Johnnie Chatman is a photographer, artist and experimental filmmaker residing in New York City. Currently he is a candidate in the MFA Photography, Video & Related Media program at the School of Visual Arts. While in attendance, he has been awarded the Beth Block Travel Grant, Chairman's grant, Alice Beck-Odette Scholarship and a department assistantship. He completed his undergrad at Academy of Art University in San Francisco with dual emphasis in fine art and commercial photography in 2015. His work has been shown across the U.S., including in exhibitions through the Claremont Museum of Art and the de Young Museum. Most recently he was chosen to be in Francis Ford Coppola's art and literature magazine Zoetrope: All Story by guest editor, photographer Richard Misrach. He is also the founder and editor of The Nine magazine (an online forum highlighting projects by up and coming artists) as well as the curator of the In Time Film Festival (a showcase of avant garde film and video art work).
