Born and raised in Southern California, Johnnie Chatman is a photographer, artist and experimental filmmaker residing in New York City. Currently he is in his last year of studies at the School of Visual Arts working towards his Masters degree in Photography, Video and New Media. His work has been shown across the U.S., including exhibitions through the Claremont Museum of Art and De Young Museum in San Francisco. He is the founder and editor of The Nine magazine (an online forum highlighting projects by up and coming artists) as well as the curator of the In Time Film Festival (a showcase of avant garde film and video art work).

With his art practice he explores the dyad of human growth and the exploitation/ alteration of the natural environment by examining areas of equilibrium and offset through constructs of identity , historical implications of the West and cultural capital.
